Since the cd spins up, I would suggest that it is not a dirty lens as the cd mech must be finding focus. I guess that this is a cd interface fault which requires expert intervention or a replacement cd mech kit by a service centre.

If you want to try another dealer near you then I suggest B&O, King Street, Manchester. They are members on this forum and seem to be quite helpful with older equipment. They will of course be fairly pricey. or You could contact member Nobby (Neil Briffett) on this forum. He is in Farnham in Surrey. He will probably suggest that you pack it in a

Maybe just the servo drive band dropped off(likely) or broken(unlikely).

I think Peter has had a 20CL or similar done so he will know. Axel has my first 3 MMC20 series of mine to do at the moment, due back any day. He has done loads of MMC4's and MMC2's for me and they have all been superb.
