Your challenge will be to get the discrete 4-channel sound from the BM6000 into the BeoSystem 3. Looking at the back of that I can't see any easy way to do so, save some kind of outboard analog surround to SP/DIFF encoder.
-
In that case, it's almost positively a two-way system. See if the BeoLink 5000 remote has an intact LCD display, with no missing lines of pixels...
-
There is a way to get an old Remote Mains Switch to work, via a PowerLink converter. However this offers (at least in the 110v markets) a non-polarized outlet, which isn't of much use nowadays. However I'm sure dealers have a more modern solution nowadays.

Some models have two-way infrared, which means they can support more sophisticated remote controls (5000 and 7000). Check for the IR window mentioned above -- it's just a nicety, not an essential part of the system.

This seems like two separate questions: First, whether the BL1000 has an AV command, which it may not (I can't recall seeing AV on a BL1000, but it's possible I'm wrong...) Second, how AV works on the Beo4. You are correct that the AV function is predicated on the two products been connected (DataLink or ML). Without that connection, all it will do

An interesting question would be whether your 2300 supports two-way IR. Does it have a shiny black infrared window under the ledge on the lower-left side?

We're talking about the North American MX5000 here, which is a completely different beast than the European one. Best bet is to grab the Service Manual, which is available here on the site. It's 66 pages long, including large fold-out circuit diagrams!

I believe they were designed before the standard had expanded for TV/Video sources. As for the Radio, it should show "P1" through 6 or higher depending on what preset you are listening to. If you don't have it on a preset, it may well be blank...
-
This is the expected behavior -- only systems that originally included SpeakerLink send the display data in the correct format for the Penta I. You will get source but not track/station and not volume. You can however substitute newer display units, as the data signal is passed to them untouched, or contact Ridax for his next-generation display units

Anyone ever seen one of these before? (Unable to reply to this message for reasons unknown to me, I've used my moderator powers and edited in a reply instead) Yep. There's one in every Beocord 6000, 8000, 8002, 8004, 9000 and it's not external, its a plug-in module. This one is a 120V 60Hz version so would be fine for a US-conversion of
