Yes, you can either get very neat ones from B&O or make your own. The plugs you need are available from Maplins. If you go for the B&O ones, you need the extension leads, not the speaker leads which only have a male plug at one end and bare wire at the other.

Having taken one apart, the bit that impresses me is the transformer, which weighs a ton! That and the drive unit are serious bits of kit!

It isn't! It is much the same as the MMC20E but was offered as the basic cartridge in the US. The stylus is not replaceable. The picture shows it in a P mount which allows it to be fitted to standard arms. Not worth very much in my opinion as it will be old and the suspension will have hardened.

Yes! I agree the 5500,6500 and 7000 are pretty much the same machine , give or take a RIAA and some Powerlink sockets. The 5000 is a different design and in my opinion rather nicer. If it only used Beolink 1000 codes! I imagine the 5500 was a fair bit cheaper to produce.

The problem here will be connecting the speakers! I take it that you want them connected to the Beosystem 1 so that you get a surround system. In this case, the BS1 should be Option 2 and the Beosound Option 0. This however will require the IR receiver of the BS1 to be used and in view. If you do it the other way, the speakers need to be attached to

MCL cable has 7 cores and this what you have. It only shields the Data channel and therefore I would be wary of using it for ML. I suppose there would be no harm in trying though! I think it likely you will get interference !
