• Re: Beosound 5 Encore is here...
And again, if AirPlay is so useless, why did B&O put it in front of the BS5 on one of its first pictures?
Also AirPlay is used by third-party products such as Airfoil to enable you to stream non-Apple sourced audio to your various AirPlay compatible devices - you'd need an Airport Express to achieve this
A few posts up there was a complaint about the AirPort express having to be plugged into the front of the BeoSound 5 Encore. Why would it ever be plugged in? Why wouldn't you just stream directly from your iTunes library?
If the Encore can pick up a password-protected iTunes library (or multiple libraries
Where in my post did I say other products should not be discussed?
Not saying you did, it was more implied:
This forum has turned in to a why Apple is great and everybody else should do things the Apple way. Can somebody direct me to the forum for people who enjoy B and O? [/quote
Aux in the front???
Yes, the Aux is next to a USB socket connected on the front of the Encore, under the screen. I think these, plus the headphones socket, are designed for "temporary" connections. Problem is that my Airport Express is perma-connected to my Beosound 4, I don't want the cable connected

Just back from my dealer and had a quick look at the (yet to be connected) Encore. One thing tha disappointed me was that the aux/line in is on the front of the Encore, which means the cable from an Airport Express would hang out the front of the device. I'll wait and see how it is when it's connected up next week and make a decision then. As
The 5 is wonderful.
I used to own the Beosound 5/Master, kept it for two months, then sold it. Didn't like the cables, didn't like the flacky Master, didn't like the expense and didn't like the Besound 5 UI (although I could live with that). Did I mention it was very expensive? I might have forgotten
B&o =/= Apple
Eh? The Encore is supposed to be a do-it-all central device that uses music from various non-B&O sources. If you want a B&O-only device, then the Beosound 5 + Master is your combination. Plus it's very very expensive. It's B&O that are using AirPlay to promote the Encore
The navigation should be on the remote.
Which is exactly what the iPad offers, using AirPlay, with my Airport Express connected to BeoSound 4/BL3s. I'm using the iPod app on the iPad, with it on my office desk and can use it to control the music playing through the BS4, the volume, move between tracks

  • Re: Beosound 5 Encore is here...
Moxxey's point is that with Airplay proper they could be streamed direct without having to worry about formats or having to convert between whatever - i.e a seamless and hassle-free experience from any audio source to your B&O speakers is what he wants.
Correct. It would be good for the Encore to be

  • Re: Beosound 5 Encore is here...
My opinion: It is a complete overkill to buy a Beosound 5, Beosound 5 Encore and B&O speakers if you just want to listen to your AAC- or MP3-Files from iTunes or Amazon.
You miss the point, miss the point entirely. Most users - myself included - have tracks from the iTunes Store, tracks they may have ripped using
