Hi, So if the suspension is knackered, why is it so stiff? And why would this excite the body's resonances? The scraping noise sounds as if it came from a pipe! It makes me think of my old 78's played with a worn needle.

Thanks for that. The cart sits on a Beogram 3000, VTA set somewhere between 1.5 and 2 grammes. I tried a little less but it doesn't make much of a difference. I found a company in Surrey which can repair it for £65, which is about the same as Axel in Germany who will do it for €80. It's called Expert Stylus and Cartridge company.

Yes, rubber grommets, that's a classic fix! The transformer hums, but it doesn't transmit any humming to the circuits, which is already something I suppose. Thanks.

Hi John, The stand-by circuit is described at page 2-1. Have you already tried swapping the whole control panel? There could be a problem with the 33 switch methinks. Otherwise, have a look on the transistors, diodes and perhaps the 10μF cap.

Hi John, Well done with the motor. What did you do? I maintain that there must be something wrong with the stand-by circuit. Did you replace the two transistors I mentioned in the previous thread? Also I would closely inspect the board for any other cracks/dry joints! Good luck. Ps.: I know what you mean...

It ran backwards because when you put it back you changed the magnet's polarities. When you do that, take good care of marking the exact place of the parts because one third of a turn either way
