I am sure this is just bad luck. You never know, another journey and it might work! The optical heads on these are reported to be a little prone to fail.

I do actually have another Beogram 1000 manual but having looked through it, it is no better than the one on site I am afraid. The service manuals are pretty variable in helpfulness and I agree this one is not so great. Maybe Martin can help with some advice.

It will but only one way. Really not worth it as no programming or feed back. It turns into a very bulky Beolink 1000.

Actually in the this case, definitely Martin to the rescue. A huge project with a few reverses but a successful ending.

Cartridges that will fit: SP15 MMC3000, 4000, 5000, 6000 MMC10E MMC20S, E, EN, CL Soundsmith in the US make new ones - not cheap! They are however black so match your deck very nicely!

I really don't see why that should not work. I am sure that you can get an active filter - but I have no idea of the cost. If you do a google search, it lists a number of options.
