i got mine from this eBay seller: Cheap Headphone Amp Simon
-
A dedicated headphone amp of good quality would probably cost more than a second hand BM5000. I have a little dot micro portable headphone amp that I use with my iPod that cost around £40. If you want to go down the headphone amp route I suggest you check out the dedicated headphone amplifier section of the forums at www.head-fi.org . They have

Steve at Sounds Heavenly: I have taken countless critical comments over the years from "audiophile" friends who have knocked my choice of B&O systems, although my kit has always given me a far more enjoyable listening experience than their (often far more expensive) hifi systems. I love the whole ownership experience, including the operation

The price sounds on the high side but not completely outrageous. The brutal fact is that replacing the tube on a 28" does not make economic sense, it is much more cost-effective to buy another used Avant. Simon

Thanks David and Martin! I will be in touch with David shortly. Simon

tournedos: Well it is certainly worth using! If the going rates are like that over there, I'd just add a CD player, some decent speakers and keep the thing. Agreed! It really isn't worth selling B&O kit from that era, it sounds wonderful, looks good and isn't worth much money. Far better to use and enjoy or give as a freebie to someone

B&O made some excellent stuff at around this time, but sadly very little of it is worth anything significant in money terms . Assuming everything is in perfext working order as well as being cosmetically excellent you are looking at maybe £50 on eBay, but this can vary wildly based on pot luck and you may end up with much less. Thanks for the replies, it does look as if capacitors are the likely culprit. One thing I am sure of is that if I attempted the repair myself I would probably make things worse! Could anyone recommend a repairer based in the North West of England who could do the work for me? Thanks again Simon

I have an unusual problem on my Beogram CD50. When it starts playing there is no sound. After about 3 minutes there is some sound but it is incredibly distorted. If I wait another 30 seconds or so the distortion disappears and it works perfectly. This only happens when it has been on standby for a while, if it has only been put on standby for a few
