If someone with better ears than mine was to have his way with the BL5s: 1. Adding one more tweeter, to be dedicated to the range above 6.000Hz. 2. He suspects that the processing dampens output in that same 6.000-20.000Hz range; quite common, in order to avoid complaints about speakers (not just BL5s) being too bright. Tape hiss, etc., from older recordings

Given that ordinary speakers have looked pretty much the same for 90 years, I do think that the BL5s are still fresh and new. In fact, whenever I look at mine, I'm struck by them. As I was when I saw four in The Dark Knight - no prizes for guessing what the set designer thought of the BL5s. The only update I might want is for the speakers to accept

Just wanted to post a "thumbs up" to Phil here, for the work he's doing, excellent. And the opening sentence of his web-site should have been engraved on the desks of the previous mgt at B&O: If you love Bang and Olufsen, your computer is likely to be a Mac. Design, Ease of use, Integration, Attention to detail, these two brands have

There's another element which plays a role: the fact that B&O speakers are active, and that the interconnects are proprietary. HiFi lives handsomely off the profits generated by the sales of interconnects (manufacturing cost minimal - sales price astronomical), and the B&O range of speakers stands outside this category completely. Some decades

I wouldn't recomment connecting BL3s directly to the analog out from a Mac. I've done so with both BL3s and BL5s, just for testing, and there are issues. One is that you have to be wary of what volume you have your Mac set at - it can get very loud due to these being active speakers. Worse is the fact that you might get the cable disconnected

The other day I sat down to enjoy the Beatles remaster of "Abbey Road" on my BeoLab 5s. I was enthralled - and actually had tears in the corner of my eye after several of the songs. Wonderful music through wonderful speakers. Do your utmost to place them so that they can engage the side walls to throw reflections to you, that's what the

I have a nice pressing of Take That, and enjoy listening to it immensely. Simply wonderful. Good thing those plots were so different, Peter. Imagine my pontificating about differences and nuances, and then everything coming out looking nearly identical!
I do wonder if the Beolab 5000 might actually accentuate the brightness of the Soundsmith cartridges. It always seems a very lively amplifier - I might use the 4401 as this always seems the most neutral of my collection.
That's why I took the Beogram to a friend's place for a comparison run, as mentioned
