No comparison! The BL3 is a superb near monitor standard speaker. The Beolab 4 is a not much more than a computer speaker. The BL3 is in my opinion a bargain at the price. The BL4 seems overpriced. Let us know what you think though. Speaker choice is a very personal decision though.

The HDR2 would be different as this, although overpriced, is at least designed to work seamlessly. Actually there is an issue here. The CD4 circuitry does two things: it decodes the rear channels and send these signals to the two pins unused in the 5 pin DIN plug. This is not a problem but is best kept switched off as otherwise you cut off the frequencies above 15 kHz on the front channels. However the bigger issue is that it also amplifies and equalises
