  • Re: beogram 6500 phono setup

I suspect that your Beomaster has an RIAA fitted as an option. I wonder if it is overloading the power amp so this cuts out but will produce loud distorted sound into the headphones. If I am correct , your options are: 1. Get the RIAA removed from the Beomaster. 2. Change the Beogram for one without the RIAA - a 5500 would work. The Beogram 6500 with

  • Re: PENTA MK III not that bad

Nothing wrong with Pentas at all! One of the best of the column speakers. They lose on absolute bass compared to those speakers with bigger drive units and the top end is not quite as well defined as some of the later active models, but they produce a well balanced sound in my view. I still have a pair as my sitting room speakers. Would probably only

  • Re: MCL "sensor" eye?

That sounds like the sensor for either the VX5000 or possibly the Beomaster 5500.

beobeo: Peter : I am however going to be replacing this set up fairly soon! Beolab 5000, Beomaster 5000, Beogram 3000 Thorens ! Simply the best made B&O available. Very interesting post indeed. I tought the Beogram 4000 is the best turntable ever build by BnO, isn't it? (you actually own it!). The best sounding Beogram would probably be the

  • Re: going retro

My 'audiophile' system at present is: Beomaster 4400, Beogram 4000, Beogram CDX and Beocord 5000 (the 70s one). I actually use non B&O speakers with this set up though I would use my M100s but they would dominate the room too much! The CDX has a nice warm analogue sound and works perfectly with the 4400.

  • Re: going retro

Those are both 90s. Late 70s/ early 80s 1. Beomaster 4400 and Beogram 4002 with Beovox M100s. The best sounding. 2. Beomaster 2400-2, Beogram 4004 and Beovox S75s - the best looking. 3. Beocenter 7000/7002/7007/7700 and Beovox S120s - best value.

  • Re: Compressed sound from Beogram 4000

The only caveat about cleaning fluids is you must not let the fluid track up the cantilever and get into the suspension. It wrecks it! Small amounts carefully. Gentle but persistent is the way. I have a binocular microscope that I use to make sure the stylus is good and clean.

  • Re: ML/MCL Converter & VX7000

    1. I could imagine the answer is yes but you need a special cable. 2. Not usefully. However if you can get hold of an IR eye, it is possible to wire this into the VX in which case the answer is yes. I would say that VCRs are so cheap now that I would just get a non B&O one. Having said that, you can probably get a decent LX for less than £100
