I suspect that your Beomaster has an RIAA fitted as an option. I wonder if it is overloading the power amp so this cuts out but will produce loud distorted sound into the headphones. My 'audiophile' system at present is: Beomaster 4400, Beogram 4000, Beogram CDX and Beocord 5000 (the 70s one). I actually use non B&O speakers with this set up though I would use my M100s but they would dominate the room too much! The CDX has a nice warm analogue sound and works perfectly with the 4400.

Those are both 90s. Late 70s/ early 80s 1. Beomaster 4400 and Beogram 4002 with Beovox M100s. The best sounding. 2. Beomaster 2400-2, Beogram 4004 and Beovox S75s - the best looking. 3. Beocenter 7000/7002/7007/7700 and Beovox S120s - best value.

The only caveat about cleaning fluids is you must not let the fluid track up the cantilever and get into the suspension. It wrecks it! Small amounts carefully. Gentle but persistent is the way. I have a binocular microscope that I use to make sure the stylus is good and clean.
