You can open the relay carefully and you can try to clean the contacts. It will allow you to diagnose an eventual relay fault, it may work for a short time but it won't provide a lasting solution. The contacts will have developed pitting, you can see it in a microscope, and no contact cleaner will remove that. The best thing is to replace the relay

Have you checked the signals around the first opamp with a scope ? It could be interesting to see if the faulty tuning was actually commanded by the CPU. Martin

Yes, they are fairly rare in oak. And this pair looks to be in fine condition. Martin

Check the playback/record relay on the bottom board, right next to the tapehead connector. Tap it lightly with a pencil or similar and see what happens. (I have new relays too). Martin

If it is consequently running too fast, it may the speed trimmers. They can be accessed through tiny holes from underneath the deck. Not too difficult to replace either, if you can can handle an electronics type soldering iron. Martin

Wonderful simulation ! The discriminator (tuning-) lights are balanced too and also quite sensitive to correct wattage lamps. The reason is exactly as you've found out, that the filament resistance is very low when cold and varies significantly with the voltage. Martin

OK. The Evox capacitor is a polyester/metal film capacitor, completely dry. Any wetness must come from somewhere else. I really wouldn't recommend replacing components blindly. If any of the components, you put in, are not fit for the job, if a solder joint comes out bad or a copper trace breaks unnoticed, you will only have introduced a new fault rather than cured the original and it will be so much harder to diagnose.
