[quote user="Søren Hammer"] Just got the Beogram 4000 back from repair, the original SP15 cart actually plays fine for a 38 year old unit, but there is a little too much distortion, it is going to get retipped by Axel in a couple of weeks. I even have the original test charts and the caretaking set with brush, fulcrum style weight,

I like my BL2. I think a lot has to do with placement and setting it up correctly. If I play music loud, I prefer to switch it off, but at normal listening levels and in a surround sound system, it is superb.

Interesting! I preferred the sound of my Colour 700 to that of my 1000. The 1000 has, I believe a smaller speaker. However the old 600 I have played with had such a lovely rounded sound that this was my favourite. I am not sure about the size of speaker in that one - I imagine it is more to do with the enclosure though.

The 6000 setting will be absolutely fine - there is no performance difference. No doubt a future upgrade will change the menus so that the 6002 can be selected but I doubt there will be any material change.

I never saw a 10E for sale in the UK but it seemed to be the bottom of the range in the US replacing the 20S. In any case, it is a perfectly acceptable cartridge! Of course you can get Axel to replace the cantilever and make it whatever you want!

Lovely set! These radios do have a wonderful yone - better I think than the later colour radios. As far as the BeoVirus is concerned, I think I have conquered mine. I have gone from having over 100 pieces to probably low teens. Age and the fact I just wasn't using it all probably did it. The problem with old B&O is that it deteriorates if not

Is there a red stand by light on? Will it switch on when you press the right hand side of the front panel? If not, there is a problem with the power supply - it will need servicing. You will need to trace the power using a multimeter initially.

I do agree with you (I think!) I despise the inclusion of what is effectively an automatic loudness circuit in B&O speakers. I hate booming bass - I do understand that it makes the product more attractive in a showroom setting but I want a flat response and the ability to alter this to my taste. It does seem a shame that B&O manage to initiate

One could argue that the present design is fully active as the feed to the woofers is the same whereas the original was a hybrid. One could also argue that the earlier design was actually preferable in some ways but as few people can actually tell the difference, we are maybe discussing angels on pins. In any case, the Beolab 5 is so superior as to

Not sure quite what you mean. The sub chassis is definitely mobile - it is suspended on 3 leaf springs so will move up and down but also has some lateral flexibility. The bearing should be stable thopugh. Engage the transit screws and you will lock the suspension. If there is still looseness, this is abnormal.
