As some of you may know, Jandyt and I have just returned from a trip to collect some of the products at Bellac. We were welcomed and looked after by Steve for the night we were there and the hotel was wonderful. However Steve is moving on and is hence dispersing the collection. Must confess that my Beo5 is used mainly as a paperweight! And with Richard's lovely metal stand, it is a very good one!

Try turning the IR eye off - set it to option 0 and disconnnect any masterlink. See if the volume works now. If it still does it, I suspect a fault in the volume ring - was it knocked?

How embarrassing! Very kind of you all! On the toy front, my special fountain pen has yet to make its way through customs but I have been given a jolly good Venetian dip pen with a collection of nibs that I shall be playing with! Very good trip and a series of splendid meals out. Still not unpacked the car but really only got my 7000 system.

I see you are a silver member - the service manual is on site and has good instructions on how to fix this.

I would use the Tape 2 socket for the DVD/CD player. Ideal spec for this. The best of the 5000/5500/6500/7000 as far as the amplifier is concerned.

It could be the laser of course - the CD50 will be nearly 25 years old - but it might well not be. It could be the spindle motor which with age just doesn't spin fast enough and may need rebuilding.
