Thanks Frank. Peter's got me thinking though as to whether I'll notice a quality difference in the Penta 1 speakerlink since the amplified signal is suppressed and then reamplified again, whereas the Penta 2's use the direct line level signal through the powerlink socket. Austin

Hmm, if the step down is in the Penta then I wonder if there's a way to find the step down on the schematic and tie into the point after the step down with a powerlink cable. I'm considering someday assembling a high quality external amp to power them anyway, so maybe I shouldn't worry as much about it Anyway, what would you consider a good

Would it be better than to make a powerlink to speakerlink adapter, so I could use the powerlink connections on the 4500 and avoid the stepping up and down in gain levels? Austin

Thanks Peter. The 4500 has both powerlink and speakerlink connections, so does it really matter that the Penta 1's don't have powerlinks? Also, I thought the only difference with the Penta 3 was the changing of the display to the green color? If I wanted that I would probably just buy ridax's display mod. Austin

Hey Everyone, My dad and I are beginning to seriously consider a pair of Pentas to finish off our beosystem 4500. Fortunately since the US economy isn't in great shape right now the b&o ebay prices have dropped slightly. Not sure whether the beosystem 4500 counts as vintage or not, so I just posted here. About a year ago I acquired a mint beosystem 4500 (minus turntable) with cx100's (in need of refoaming) for $525 US on ebay. I believe it was one of the best b&o bargains I will ever come across. I think part of the low price was because there was absolutely

You typically see more beomaster 4500's for sale than 3500's, so you may want to look for that instead. For when you go to replace it again... http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/permalink/79101/82380/ShowThread.aspx#82380

Peter even if it doesn't work with the 4500 system that could just be because the older 4500 systems didn't have the software for the 2-way communication, no? Austin
