Hey Chris, I like your recommendation "Find yourself a decent pair of S45-2 speakers on ebay (not the S45's as these will have foam rot)" YES. YES. YES !!! Convince everyone to leave all the S45's alone, so the prices come down ;-> The S45's were available in 2 versions - the early S45's are fantastic (have 4, and always

OK, up to the last stage! New Schrack relays installed, all voltages adjusted on trimpots according to the SM. One last niggling observation - when measuring from TP100 and TP200 (the emitter resistors) to Chassis Earth, there is 66mVDC on the right channel, and only 33mVDC on the Left. There is no spec for this in the SM, but this discrepancy could

No luck for the Stereo Decoder at the B&O parts depot in Tel Aviv. But check this parts unit on ebay - says that the Stereo light works! 380173367669 Also some other good vintage stuff, and Danish L&L tube stuff!!! Menahem

A well-known problem, and a relatively simple fix. Been there, done that! See these posts http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/p/28461/225759.aspx http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/p/24078/181038.aspx Menahem

I've just finished restoring a BeoMaster 5000, and almost 60 capacitors needed to be replaced. Yours might be in the same boat - starting to show age-related problems - it isell worth it to fix. Menahem

The indicator that you always fixed it by power cycling points 99.9% to a power control capacitor.

I'm glad I've got an older CDM2 based deck - these were made much earlier than the deck you've got, and still going strong. Another testament to my theory that the older the unit, the better it is. OK, OK, don't all jump on me at once!!!!! Menahem

Mika, I've been using these for years with no problems. I use them specifically when adjustment must be made through a hole in the PCB from the foil side (ie - no access to the component side). All my restorations of the BG 4002, 4004, 6000 have been with these. If there is access from the component side, then I use the Bourns 3352E Cermet trimpots

If we look beyond the Beo CD5500, the Philips CD650 is the hands-down winner, and if you compare its circuit diagrams with those of the Beo CD5500, you can see the exclusive family lineage. The circuitry is almost identical, but component wise, B&O went one up on the Philips CD650, and used polypropylene decoupling caps for the TDA1541 DAC, instead

Hi Graham and all, A great thread which went off in all directions!!! I get a few of the newer B&O in for service, and I see a lot of the passive components sourced from China or Korea. It's the passive components which determine long-term reliability of any electronic product, so all I can conclude from this, is that at B&O today, long
