So I found the solution....some times a laptop is to flexible :-). I changed the settings in the DVD player options to external audio and than it works. However, this option is only available if the TOSLINK connector is connected before you start the DVD player. As I did not shut down the MacBook I never saw this option....grrrr Anyway, problem solved

some more interesting findings: I installed Mediacentral http://www.equinux.com/us/products/mediacentral/index.html and it works with both DTS and DD! Switching back to the Leopard DVD player does not work anymore. Hmmm...I think this further investigations. kawo

thanks for the help....I have checked the settings, I can only select 2 channel audio and can not change the speaker settings. Same with my Tiger iMac G5. However, haven't try the iMac with the BS3. kawo
