The Gallo speakers that some deem to be air conditioning units look brilliant in any room - and sound wonderful. Very good workmanship, and everything's there for a purpose related to excellent reproduction of sound. Astonishing sound.

Can't you just use HDMI for both sound and image from the ATV to the BV7? HDMI transfers high resolution sound and should have no trouble at all with the multichannel 5.1DD signal from the ATV; and the TV should be able to handle that again without a need for a separate DAC, there are DACs in the BV7, and the Cambridge DacMagic can't handle

Gallo speakers produce a very credible and engaging sound - it's an excellent design. The thinking behind the dispersion pattern of these goes hand-in-hand with what acoustic lenses are trying to achieve. The more compact unit is a joy to listen to.

If you're not satisfied with the quality of your playback, this may be due to incorrect calibration of the channels. The Beolab 5000 amp uses a direct, phase separated signal (which is the best possible design), but requires manual calibration. This is performed through the dials on the bottom of the unit. Consult the manual for the proper procedure

I quite agree, Elephant. I'm using my Beolab 5000 together with a Grace m902 DAC and an Airport Express unit. I'm streaming music to the AE from my ReadyNAS server, selected with iPhone or iPod Touch (or using Screen Sharing from one of my laptops.) The music is fed to the DAC via optical Toslink, and goes to the Beolab 5000 through an RCA>DIN

Big thanks to Dave for his Brainstorm! I now no longer consider my Beo1 useless. From the little project. Removing the "inner tube" was simple after undoing the two square head screws under the serial number label (T-5-75 head). I pulled it out using the tweezers on the left. The little resistance you encounter comes from the rubber pads hanging

Yes, it should. You may want to check that the DAC you use has a good interface to a PC, but the Edirol DAC mentioned in the link communicates well with both PC/Windows and Apple/OSX. You can also stream from a laptop to an Airport Express unit, which is then connected via optical Toslink to the DAC.

Once more, we see how Apple has been inspired by B&O ... they even kept the dimensions. Occasionally, Struer must be wondering at their inability to take products to their logical conclusion. Now I know what I'll be doing tonight. I have quite a number of those white remotes lying around.
How audible is the USB jitter noise/distortion?
Good question, Puncher. Tests have shown that jitter has to be in the 250nanoseconds range before it is audible. HiFi-publications will of course scoff at this, as quite standard gear delivers performance in the picoseconds ranges. However, there's little doubt

I'm a little skeptical of set-ups where one connects straight from the analog minijack out of a Mac to BL speakers with built-in amp's. There are various issues - one being the impedance scratching when you connect or disconnect the minijack, unless you have the speakers off. Another being the booms of sound that go through to the speakers on
