The MX has active speakers but the LX has good sound anyway. The speakers in the LX are also further apart which helps. Not much in it really! Obviously the MX will be quite a bit newer!

SCART plugs are a European standard connector - Have a look at this page .

Is it the same with all sources? If so, it is an amplifier problem. Could be the capacitors or maybe the output transistors. You need to do some testing! I note the service manual for the 1800 is not on site - I will remedy this this weekend.

The Mk2 is just an updated version of the Mk1. A new one will always be a Mk2.

Possibly not very useful in the US as it is a glorified SCART lead with a power supply and an integrated IR eye. Relatively limited number of supported products but works quite well. About £150 in the UK. Seems to have been overtaken by an improved STB-C called the PUC (Peripheral Unit Controller).

You can connect a second CD player to a Beomaster 7000. Connect it instead of the record player. It will respond to Phono commands.
