They are pretty hardy, partly because they track at a very low weight. Using them to play metal platters is, however, not recommended!

I think it will be the cartridge - I cannot hear any difference between my 400X decks, though I do think my powers of discrimination are lessening! I can tell cartridges apart though - I think the set of the diamond can be very important and your old one is clearly perfect!

I don't think any of the B&O range are that good. Look at Sennheisser.

Even more frightening is when the detector system for a 4000 does not work! However B&O had thought of this and the cantilever wrecking ribs have a cut out at the correct place. the arm drops but the tip of the stylus is a tiny bit higher than the dip in the rib! Still slightly unnerving though!

I collect Fountain pens - possibly the equivalent of record players! The pen I can see as and older Beogram would be a Lamy 2000 - a classic Bauhaus design. Nice materials and good gold nib. Also a piston filler so lots to keep one interested. The only problem with it being a B&O equivalent is that it is too cheap - about £100! Modern B&O

Is it not best to record to HDD first and then burn onto the DVD from there? Will that not compress the file to the required quality? Look at pages 42 and 43 of the inpenetrable manual!! I used to think my Panasonic DVD recorder was a bit complicated to use but compared to the DVD2, it is a model of clarity.
