Hi all I have a Beomaster 3400 in for repair here. The symptoms were fluctuating L&R channel indicator lights, then after a few seconds, the selected FM station would cut out, randomly and continuously jumping to adjacent stations. With the scope, I narrowed it down to the indicator light circuit, with DC ripples on the circuit. To isolate the ripple

Great job - Martin! I love that valve sound! Menahem

From experience, I can't tell the difference between fancy Black Gates and Panasonic FM, FC, or Nichicon KT's. I must add that I am over 50, and my hearing may have been slightly damaged from over 20 years of flying noisy aeroplanes, so maybe I am not a good candidate for BlackGates!!! (I'm not knocking BlackGates, Oscons or any of the other

Long live Vintage B&O! None of these frustrating, life-defining, humiliating experiences! Oh, don't get me wrong, vintage B&O has it's own challenges, but they are well within the realm of the average human to disassemble, repair competently, and reassemble. Plus, they sound much better than this modern "stuff" ;-) ;-> Menahem

Hi Chris, If Martin can't help you with speakers, I'd recommend looking at Pioneer car speakers of the same size. I use them as a matter of course when restoring vintage equipment (if the originals are unrepairable), because they sound so good and they are very efficient ie. they need a very small amount of power to drive them to loud volume

In this post, I dealt with the issue of changing to LED's, of which I am a fan, where possible. http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/t/12646.aspx That particular lamp on the sensor arm, I did not change, because it is relatively easy to change (do not need to dismantle the whole turntable) after a burn-out, which is relatively rare, and more importantly

Nice troubleshooting! Generally, I resolder EVERY joint on all the PCB's on any vintage machine I get in for restoration - time consuming, but well worth it! Nice scope! Definitely among those considered for my Wishlist. The vast majority of vintage B&O lamps are 25mA or 30mA - you can't go wrong if you choose a rating like that. Menahem

Soren, I may have an interesting solution for you. I remember that I had one of these turntables for repair a couple of years ago, and it was also distorting on only certain areas of the LP. I finally traced the problem to the 2 aluminium plates - the large one surrounding the platter, and the smaller one above the control panel. They were not stting

Hi Graham, Those early S45's are IMHO the best sounding Uniphase speakers. Here's a Workshop I did in restoring them, with new caps. http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/p/5584/40478.aspx The sound is pretty good before the restore, but afterwards, it's like sitting in the middle of the stage, with perfect hearing! Go for it! Menahem
