Its not that difficult and you dont have to remove anything if I remember correctly. take the top off, then open the draw. You can then clean the cogs of the mechanism with cotton buds and alcohol to remove the old grease. Then smear some new silicone grease on the cogs and I exprct it will be fine.

Is this the Bl1000esque remote. If so give me a couple of hours and I will have a look. I think I have one in a draw somewhere.

Get some silicone grease and clean off all the old grease from the mechanism and then relubricate with the new grease and I would not be suprised if this cured your problem. I have had this issue in the past and found that a good clean and relubricaion was all that was needed

The panel on the record deck is stuck on with double sided foam which will have come unstuck by now. Clean the old foam off and re attach it. As for the CDX, it should close automatically when you press play and the disk starts playing.

The 5000 or 5500 option I dont really like as I think that as a stand alone unit the BM5000-5500 are pretty plain looking. I was thinking more in the way of 70's early 80's. I have been playing around with a Beomaster 3000 and a Beogram 1200 that I recently rescued from many years in a shed and have got them looking nice an working well.
