• Re: The Loudness Wars
... turning down the midrange tends to make it much easier to talk over the music, as the music sits 'either side' of your voice instead of taking up the same frequency bands (and making you talk louder).
How true. Some like to talk over music, and some like to listen to music -- you can often tell which

  • Re: Can people tell me what exactly is the point of mp3, ipods, etc......?

A couple of statements from my now 20 years old daughter might clear up the generational gap here. "Dad, nobody uses e-mail any more." "I haven't bought a CD in a long time." She communicates a lot, with people all around the world, instantaneously; and she listens to a lot of music, which she has bought from the net. She prefers

Yes, I have quite a few CDs from the 80s which I'm pleased I chose to hang on to, and I'm doing what Tim Jarman describes here: going hunting for older CDs of my favorite artists. (Not all are better, but as you describe, don't trust the remasters). http://beomic.beocentral.com/whats-happened-to-cd/

Enormous differences. A lot of info at this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_wars Details get drowned out. What's really worth watching out for are "remasters." You'd be in error to think that they have to be better than the LP or early CD releases, most of the time. I've seen several analyses of remasters where the

  • Is a pair of Beovox M150s with Beolab 5000 to ask for trouble?

I've come a cross a very nice pair of M150s, and I'm tempted to use these together with my Beolab 5000 amplifier - but before taking the long drive to pick them up, I'd like to hear whether anyone here has tried using these speakers together with the Beolab 5000. Bad match? OK match? Good match?

  • Re: Goodbye BeoSound 9000 ?

What it really needs is a 7th disc. I mean come on! It's 2010!!!
Agree! And the maximum volume level could go to 100 as well, not only 80!
Come now, everybody knows volume should go to 11.

  • Re: Goodbye BeoSound 9000 ?

I totally agree - I feel that an upgraded BS9000 design, with greater functionality for digital playback, will still have pride of place. While CD-sales are going down, there are lots of CDs out there, and the BS9000 was the closest one got the a "vinyl-feel" in playback of

  • Re: Goodbye BeoSound 9000 ?
As with most B&o the beosound 9000 is a piece of art, comparable with famous contemporary furniture (Oh, that's a painfull remark in audiophile-country), and as such should not be stopped! It should in stead be technically updated. Same story with the beocenter 2, timeless classic, make it blueray. Simply unbelievable

  • Re: What are the best B&O items ever?

B&O items that I have made room for, or would make room for ... Beogram 4000 - just had to have one, and was lucky to find one in excellent condition. Provides me much joy. (Various derivatives of this design in the B&O line, but getting hold of a working original is a day to be marked in the calendar.) Beolab/Beomaster 5000 - couldn't be

  • Re: Privat survey of Beolab 5000 - Beomaster 5000 producs

I believe you have my serial numbers, Frede. I see my Beolab 5000 is a series 4 unit from 1968, nice. Strangely, B&O discontinued production in 1971. That was the year when Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange was released - the film went on to become a controversial hit movie, and was nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award.
