  • Beocenter 8000 CD problems

I bought this really nice looking, cheap BC8000 in which - can you guess - the CD wasn't working. I was expecting an easy C2103 job, but not so. Somebody had been in there before me, replaced a number of caps with seemingly good low ESR types, then forgotten(?) to solder C2138 and -40 in place(!!!) and put it back together. Anyway, I fixed that

camshaft: I love my Pentas, but if it wasn't for the design, I wouldn't be very thrilled about buying speakers with drivers made by cheap oems like ITT and nokia. I'll just pick this one - Nokia never made a single speaker. If they're labelled Nokia, it just means that the same drivers have at some point been used in the multitude of

  • Interesting reading on CD players

I stumbled on a site by apparently a Polish guy, who is obsessed with making CD players all tube (or valve, for you people on the isles) apart from the DAC, of course. I'm not sure if I agree with all his points, but it sure makes for some interesting reading: http://www.lampizator.eu/ For the residents of this forum, the ranking page http://www

  • Re: 4002 blows fuse

The CD4 decoder board was available as an option for 4002, but it was pretty rare. I guess there's a place for the switch on all 4002 chassi? If you can find the type number on your player, it should confirm if you have an original 4002. Even if you don't need the CD4 function - it's hard and/or expensive to find a cartridge that can do

  • Re: Info wanted

Well, I actually have a Beocenter 2800 at the office and I occasionally use it to blast some Jimi Hendrix off vinyl when things get too flegmatic The PC is connected to the tape input, though. I thing the woofer surrounds were rubber, at least mine were just fine when I looked under the frets after hauling the pair home. I don't think there's

  • Re: HDR Scart and Video Signal Quality

I'm pretty certain that you are now watching a composite video signal whereas you previously had RGB. Unfortunately I know nothing of either of your equipment, but in addition to settings, this change might be caused by a bad contact in the SCART connectors. SCART connections usually use the switching voltage on pin 16, if I recall right, to switch

Well, computer monitors are just for what I'm using them at the moment (with the 70s Beomaster 2000 as an amp and occasional source of radio programming) and that's what they were in the office as well. If you install them high, I'd definitely tilt them downward, as they actually need to be aimed at your head Having them close to the wall

  • Re: Info wanted

I've got a pair of them, and I absolutely love their sound for not so "heavy" concert music (like string quartets and such). They obviously won't have gut-wrenching bass... They can be also pretty hard to place, since the cone tweeters are incredibly directional. I had them at the office for a while, and a cow-orker of mine, who doesn't

  • Re: SCART Datalink/AVL- seeking advice

The solution with 74hc14 would've been simple and elegant, but I took a look at the data sheet and it has a worst case hysteresis of over 1.5 volts (at 5V supply), so it would not be reliable. This could be implemented also with two or maybe one transistors, but since I know you digital people hate them, I reverted to the opamp circuit Here's
