Answering your questions: My dealer advised me: In order to have full Dolby 5.1 sound quality while watching DVD it is advisable to have BL2 as sound engineers lay specific information on the subwoofer channel only which would otherwise be not lost but reduced.
Unfortunately, your dealer doesn't have a clue

I expect this'll end up an inverse of the "what's the point of mp3 ...." thread!
So the contributors will progressively become more and more polite and more accommodating of the views of others? Graham
Yes, this will be the Bizarro-version of that

There's probably a difference between what is stated and what is heard ... A few realities. CD sales are nosediving - truly headed for the ground. So are DVD-sales. That's a useful indicator. Why? Because these discs are containers for the content - they're not the content. If you want to use a record player, you need a record for your stylus;

Prospective girlfriend during try-outs enters my listening room, which is adjoining the large kitchen. Sees my BeoLab 5s, asks "What are those?" Falls silent when she is told they are loudspeakers. "This could be such a great dining room." I'm single.

Yes, I understood that - I've read nothing but excellent things about both the Beomaster 8000 and the M150s connected to them; but my post about matching Beolab 5000 to M150s was due to a worry about this not working out too well. I believe that Jarman describes the M150s as being absolutely flat. Consider the tremendous work B&O has put into

Thanks for the solid advice, Peter. I think I've been able to find a good owner for these units, and so my conscience is at rest - don't bother with testing the M150s with the Beolab 5000, I'll take your word for the hammock-shaped sound. I think I'll apply myself to restoring some other vintage B&O! Cheers.

Hmmm - the Beovox M150 speakers seem to be attached to a Beomaster, -cord, -gram of the 8000 variety. Owner says they are willing to part with these. I'm told that the Monitor and Volume store buttons are missing on the Master, but that it works. And that the turntable needs adjusting, as it turns unevenly. It's not been used much and looks

Which is why I would recommend storing your music and other files in at least lossless versions (which will do excellently.) As many will discover, iTunes now makes it possible for you to port your music to your iPod or iPhone in a lower resolution than the one you are storing the music in, thus making it possible to have lossless (or full resolution

Well, there is such a thing as podcasts, you can subscribe to them, and a large number of radio stations and other providers, around the world, provide excellent podcasts - music, debate, documentaries, etc. I subscribe to several podcasts from BBC World Service, BBC3, my own country's radio stations, and radio stations from other nations. These
Re the positioning,they did not sound at their best when angled and seem best straight ahead-unlike conventional speakers.
The acoustic lenses are designed to engage the side walls, in that the sound is to reflect off these, and to the listeners, complementing the direct sound, but with a slight delay - which
