Can't disagree with any of that really. I have a full 2400 system including cabinet taking up space with Lee along with a Beogram 8002! My BG4004 is sitting on the desk next to my computer, my daughter is playing her cello next to my 8000 system and the MS150s are down in Eastbourne sitting next to my BM6000 quad ! All you have really missed out

Download the BG4000 service manual. Page 2.1 has a diagram! Same principle for the 4002.

Pull the wood trim forward and all the metal plates are released. Changing the belt could not be easier once that is done. The wood trim will be stiff!

The 5005 will need a RIAA - Lifestyle AV do sell these. See here . By far the easiest decks to use will be the 4500, 6500 and 7000. (Or the afore mentioned 6000). Unfortunately the cartridges are integrated units so it is not possible to replace just the stylus. The SMMC4 is very good value for what you get.

The 6500 and 7000 will fit directly. These decks are identical except for the badge! Cartridges for them are available from Soundsmith and sonically these are even better than the originals. I agree with John as well that if it were me, I would seriously consider the Beogram 6000 which is made from better materials and is a classic of design. New cartridges

Surprised that we have not had a vote for the AV9000 . In my view, the Avant , although a great TV, is just too bulky, the BV3 is fine from the front but from the back or side, it is ugly, the BV9 is spoilt by the ALT lens sticking out the front and the BV5 should really have the screen level with the speaker cover. I think the design of the BV1 / BC1

I imagine you parents have something like an LX5500 . You can get something like an LX6000 for less than £100 these days. The MX range come a variety of sizes and both of these sets will probably have a better picture than the widescreen ones. However they are getting old. I would agree with the above and get an Avant RF. You can tell these as

Are you using a DIN to Jack connector? I would guess it is the lead to go from jack to DIN rather than DIN to jack which is what you need. I would suggest getting a lead which does both directions - also means you can play your computer music on your system. It will have two stereo jack plugs.
