There's no lock whatsoever for the arm nor its carriage (another reason why these decks don't travel to well). The three screws only lock the floating part of the chassis to the rest of the frame. Most probably the small belt from the servo motor to the worm gear pulley is worn / broken / missing.

I have an MX6000 with the motorized stand, and a matching white VX5000 I have trouble positioning (not that I'd use it much, I just like the looks of it...). Was the stand with a VCR shelf a separate product, or was the shelf an add-on to the basic stand? And if so, has anybody seen them for sale at any reasonable price?

It does stay on a little longer (maybe 20 seconds) if you keep the button down. But I'm sure the MCP doesn't have its own clock, so it would have to keep querying the Beomaster for the time via IR, which would add still to the battery consumption... with an average of maybe 15 LED segments lit at a time, it must take nearer to 100 mA on them
