  • Re: BeoGram 4002 / 6000 PhotoResistor

yachadm: Looks like we're on the same "wavelength" here! Isn't it a bit early yet for summer in Finland? The typical holiday season over here is in July, but it was 28°C on Thursday and Friday, so I left work a little early You're right about TPS622, I forgot it was infrared although it would probably respond to long end of

  • Re: BeoGram 4002 / 6000 PhotoResistor

I'm at the summer house behind a lousy connection and away from my data books now, but some types that I can remember offhand are TPS622 and SFH 300-3. The latter is in a LED-like case and probably awkward to install in this sideways looking application. You were talking about the sensor at the "ruler" / carriage position encoder, right

  • Re: MX6000 RGB sharpness

The problem is definitely the MX. I can compare the picture with the same STB and SCART lead anytime with my old tv. I don't have the schematics here now, but from the quick look I took, it seems the RGB signals are switched passively between AV1 and AV2 using biased diodes - hardly videophile quality... It wouldn't be too hard to bypass this

  • Re: Beolab Penta Manual

kallasr: For 20 euro (silver membership) you can download all that is online. Having bought Pentas (just a guess) the extra 20 Euro is an investment not very noticable. The turning point for me was that I discovered myself paying more for a couple of original service manuals off of eBay than the silver membership. I went for gold just for the heck of

  • MX6000 RGB sharpness

I'm watching my MX6000 now exclusively using RGB signals since the internal tuner is useless over here nowadays. I have a slight problem with the picture sharpness, though. This is most evident when I call up the menu and the picture underneath switches to composite. I know that is mostly artificial sharpness and I can't stand watching composite

  • Re: MX6000 shuts down

I resoldered a number of solder joints I didn't do last time (including one bad left by myself). The set has now worked fine for hours - even after I assembled it and the room is quite hot. Looks good

  • Re: Wiiiide-Screen Television

britops: Why are TV's 16:9 Ratio? I'm frustrated with watching movies in letterbox. Because if they weren't, you'd be frustrated with watching TV in pillarbox! Seriously, it was decided on years ago, more for compatibility reasons than anything else.

  • Re: What's playing RIGHT NOW?

"Steppin' out", Eric Clapton featured with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, with Champion Jack Dupree & Otis Spann (phew). Put that on the BG6000. I bought the record more than 20 years ago from one of my oldest (now late) friends. It's been years, too, since I last played this...

  • Re: MX6000 shuts down

Not yet, I haven't had the energy to lift the set off the stand so I could pull the chassis completely out. Will do later and report on the results...

  • Re: BeoGram 4002 / 6000 PhotoResistor

yachadm: I opened up the assembly, and the installed component appears to be a non-original Motorola substitute part (appears to be 2N5779 PhotoDarlington), as it has 3 leads, but only the Collector and Emitter are being used, and the Base has been cut off. Cutting off leads is definitely not B&O's style! Well, it was the 70s, and the innards
