I (or actually a friend of mine, who has dogs...) have had good results with a generic de-odour spray (try Tarjoustalo ). I wouldn't spray it directly on the electronics, and probably not on the parade surface of the wood, either. These sprays often can really neutralize the smell and not just replace it with another equally annoying one.

I'd say if the cartridge sounds fine to you, don't worry about it. The B&O styli are very durable, it's the stylus suspension that usually breaks in these old cartridges and then it's time to shop for a new one. They can fail from just old age, sitting on the shelf! The later MMC20 series will be plug & play just as well - these
