A little digging later - the DAC is an AD1852. If any of you are interested in the specs, you can find them here ! Seems to be reasonably respected though the AD1853 and AD1865 , though both being phased out, and AD1955 seem to generate the most praise. It is a multi-purpose chip capable of working in both DVD and CD scenarios.

To be completely fair, I imagine the sound is just as good as the Beocenter 2 and BS9000 especially if the files are stored as lossless or very high bit rate if compressed. You cannot really make it better as the sound is coming from the original CD and if using the digital out of the BC2 and BS9000 with Beolab 5s, there is nothing you can really do

The addition of a two way remote massively increases the programming power of the Beocenter 9500 and different times for every day and even different dates can be programmed. I agree. I hope that the good dealers keep going - I still miss my old dealer Windows of the Arcade, who epitomised everything that B&O seemed to aspire to. The Link channels are tuned to unused areas in the frequency range. You have the ability to change the Link frequency and the received frequencies for each component on the link TV. The Product Configuration Guide (on site!) is most useful in configuring the system and will give you an idiot's guide to how to do it.

I agree about the speed control - the Beogram 8000 had a speed control on it so that you could 'tune' the records to be the same as your piano should you wish to play along!! When working, the 8000 needed no strobe as it was completely accurate. Having seen some going backwards, maybe this is not always the case now!

You should get more on eBay. The Beocenter 9000 is not a unit that most dealers will want to buy as it is aging and the CD unit can become tricky to get spares for. There is one on eBay with a Buy it now price of £350 - probably pretty realistic though I think the market is almost stagnant at present.

malct: Hi I have ordered the new software and bought my Topfeild box. UPDATE I have now got the topfeild box working but still having problems with connections. the only way i can get the Box is through the DVD connection and now i cant get my DVD connected. I am sure its to do with the decoder side of the connections. I have only 2 connections chowing

Some of the older decks had a strobe built in. The two 'other make' Beogram 3000s both had strobes but so did the Beogram 1000, and the 1200 range, though you could only really check it without a record on the deck! The Beogram 4000 is the last I can think of and that one read from an illuminated scale on the sub-platter for both 33 and 45 speeds
