The internal degauss circuit is rather weak, though, and it can take very long before it removes problems caused by an external magnetic field. I believe most tv repair shops should have a degaussing device, it's used from the front of the tube and doesn't require any disassembly. Perhaps worth an inquiry, if the problem starts to eat you after

The problem with them usually is that they don't heat too much and still consume the batteries very fast. Try if you can find chemical heating pads somewhere. The are small fabric "pillows" filled with some kind of an iron compound. Once you unwrap them and they get in contact with air, they get surprisingly warm and stay that way for

Usually the tv sets' own speakers won't cause any discolorations if the degauss circuit is working. It might be worth checking that out. Do you hear the small "doinggggg..." sound when you turn the TV set on? It might be also a temporary magnetization from some event that passed by... in that case, it should go away if you do the degauss
