Sounds like the power supply is causing problems. The protection circuit will be clicking in. It will need a service - and yes, probably capacitors and variable resistors! Well worth the effort. Use a 5500 system myself every day with my computer.

We are coming to the star prize! Beolab 4000s are simply wonderful speakers - I think they outperform the 6000s by quite a margin and have a wonderful tone to them. I use them in both my surround systems and they perform that task well and can also cut the mustard as hi-fi speakers as well. With a Beosound 3000 they make a wonderful compact system.

It is softer to hold for a long time. The 6000, though excellent - I have 4 of them! - has hard edges! I now use a headset when using them for a long time! The Beocom 2 is too slippery if I am being fussy!
