As you obviously do know a lot about the technical details ... which i appreciate very much ... i might ask you one of the questions that bugs me most: What does make the sound in the B&O systems ... especially in a digital setup using the Beolab 5. I asked this question to a whole bunch of dealers etc. ... nobody

Some caveats (to me, that is):
Just buy a modified Apple-TV ...
Modified? So I have to have someone else modify a product to get it to work?
and a Sonos ZP 90 netplayer ...
Hmm, Sonos. I have a few, but in my book, severe problems with their offerings: 1) They use an old D/A converter. I can tell
And even the 350€ Sonos Player sounds better using the BL5's digital-in ... maybe a result of the better D/A-Converter in the ZP90 as it it is a 2010 product compared to those of Ouverture and Beosound 9000. You simply gain more transparency and details.
[my emphasis] Actually, that is no surprise at
Also I would say that the days of albums are very limited. People (well younger ones) want instant gratification and if there is a bad song they just skip it. Gone are the days of songs slowly growing on you, if you dont like it you skip it.
I agree, but I will also add, that even on cd-players we were allowed

Beware when "testing" and especially if purchasing Naim (and to a lesser degree, Linn): They "voice" their products to get that "Naim/Linn" sound. In effect, they're introducing distortion to make that special "sound".
I know all this. I'm not a Luddite who shuns the modern world and lives in a yurt with a solar panel and some fennel tea for company. I just choose to take pleasure in handling physical media such as LPs, books, etc., and I find storing music on a hard-drive soulless and devoid of any pleasure whatsoever. I can

One of the things I don't like about cd-players are the mechs going wrong. One of the reasons I bought a Thinkpad X200s was that it didn't have a DVD/CD-drive. The mechs, especially slotloaders break pretty fast and often and is the reason a company like AVI HiFi stopped making them years ago, but other HiFi companies have done the same for
I did once rip all my albums into iTunes, but to be honest I'd much rather put a CD or an LP on and listen to that. When I pick up a book I don't read random chapters, and I feel the same about music to be honest.
You can listen to whole albums even if it's ripped to your harddisk. Gapless even

A cd is a digital file. Your cd-player is "digital equipment" A DVD is a digital file. Your DVD-player is "digital equipment" Personally, I moved to ripping my cd's and so forth about fifteen years ago. My audio files for work were digital and therefore on cards and hdds already, so it wasn't a big step. I dislike cd-covers
