Peter: There were some technical papers available showing how they plan to do it. Essentially they make the aluminium very thin but then have tiny pores in it so you can have touch sensitive areas that light up. Very clever and this will come! Does that mean its "waaferrr" thin?? Duck !!!

It would certainly stop them having the pick of video panels to go in their TV's

9 LEE: I have a feeling that the phone charging base could well be a docking station with integrated speakers... Food for thought. Lee Bose docking station/speakers ???

soundproof: You're right. I would like to know which DAC they have installed in the BL5s. You cant compare directly because the Digital to Analogue conversion is done at "speaker power" levels in a Class D amp, i.e. high frequency, high voltage, is switched into the load (i.e. speaker) and the driver Inductance acts as part of the low

Class D amplifiers are not unique to B&O and there are lots of single chip Class D amplifier solutions available from chip manufacturers for consumer electronic applications. I would be suprised if this isn't the standard method of mobile phone amplification given the efficiency benefits (esp at low voltage) and the constant quest for extended

Only issue with the DAC route is that if you do ever land the BL5's then it either becomes redundant or you end up converting the signal twice. Ideally need a switchable digital "patchbay" with the output connected to the Lab5's. This would allow all digital sources to use the Lab5's, using their internal DAC and be converted only

Peter: The DAC idea is a good one. I'll certainly bear that one in mind. I am going to have a listen - no commitment! I agree with Soundproof about the BL3s. I am very sceptical about running in speakers but in the case of the BL3s, it certainly was my experience as well. I'll report back! A DAC with switchable source would be a good idea so

Unfortunately not - Hartlepool in the morning and sunny Spennymoor p.m. I would be tempted with the CD5500 and put the rest of the money into the Lab5/Lab9 fund. As a thought would it be worth waiting for the CD5500 for comparison purposes rather than the CDX.

I know that you'll know me to be ever the sceptic but I can help but wonder exactly what the valve preamp is adding to the specs.
