It's safe to try with a fast fuse - it may blow unnecessarily, but it will not cause any damage. If the Beogram works then, you'll know that the problem was just the blown fuse.

joeyboygolf: This is a safety mechanism. The amplifier has a problem probably in the output stage. The system switches off to prevent further damage. You need to find a service agent who will tackle items of this age. Pretty sure the idle current setting trimpots in the output stage are shot. Half-an-hour job for someone who knows what he's doing
