Actually it's only the connection between the turntable and the preamp (be it external or internal to an amp) that needs the grounding. Do you still have the correct DIN plug in the turntable signal cord, and then a DIN-2xRCA adapter to the preamp? Then you can try a short length of wire between the preamp ground and and the sleeve of the DIN plug

The cable looks correct, but it may still not be the type you need. The DIN connector (5-pin) has both stereo inputs and outputs, but the 2 RCA's can only be connected to one or another of them. I suspect the cable you have is built to get signal from the DIN to the RCA's. You'll either have to swap it for the other type, or get an adapter
