The headphone outputs in most amps will just have two resistors in series with the headphones, connected to the same signal as speakers. I believe the simplest option will contain two male 2-pin DIN's, two 220 ohm resistors and a 3.5 mm stereo jack. With the power levels you'd want to have in your earphones, 1/2W resistors should be more than

A long shot, but have you simply checked that the tube has power to the heater (does it glow)?

Ouch. Well you'll need to replace at least that transistor, then. Fortunately they are easy to find and cheap.

I'm not familiar with the internal design of these dimmers - but from general knowledge, if they get hotter with larger loads, they will probably fail sooner.

There's always the possibility that yours suffers from the canonical C2103 problem, like many of the B&O CD players from this era. This is easy to fix by someone familiar with these things (not knowing your repairman, I can't say if he has tried this already). However, there might other problems as well - mine apparently had a servo board

I got mine on Monday I've always liked the way the Jarmans write on Beocentral, and the book was no disappointment in this area, either. I would've picked this up at the book store even if I wasn't a convert already! And I won't cancel the Amazon order either, I'm sure the book will find a home later...

From what I understand, this could be a failure of the phasing capacitor (150uF bipolar, one of the four) or the motor itself. You should also check the voltage at the other end of the 4000 uF cap feeding the motor (another one in the bank of four) - it should
