The laser lens is facing downwards in the Beogram CD50 so dust accumulating on the lens is not an issue unless the player has been stored upside down. The CD50 is nothing like any other B&O CD decks, the laser control included. Actually the laser current control and the laser itself is a very robust build. I only ever saw one faulty laser block

Thanks for all your health wishes and the nice card. Very warming I am very much looking forward to continue work on this set but that will have to wait a couple more days, I'm afraid. However, I can report on a couple of minor things I managed to attend before I went down: The object, that was rattling inside, turned out to be an apprx 19cm long

Replace caps first. You can't really judge anything based on unstable supplys etc. Martin

There's a capacitor kit available and I also have the U8 prescaler IC (original mfg. new part) plus diverse used parts, boards etc.. There's a large transistor near the U8 that gets hot when operating. I usually try to bend it slightly away from U8, it won't go far, though. Not that I have been able to confirm that the heat is what actually

The BM8000 tuner seems to be a very robust design. I've seen very few faults on these. I'm sure we can find a price if it proves faulty but do check those things first. Martin

Anthony, Welcome to Beoworld ! Have your repairshop check if the tuner board works if lifted just a few millimeters up. The Beomasters bottom plate is held by a couple of screws and in some BM8000, the screw sitting under the tuner board(s) and near the front edge is too long. This means that it will short a track on the board(s) to the bottom plate

Jeff, You can squeeze in a block of foam over the arms rear housing and you can also tie down the assembly using some masking tape or similar. The more the better. Martin
