If you mean by your question you want to change just the wall socket to RJ45 and still use it for Masterlink, then your first problem will be the number of connections. Masterlink requires 9 wires plus ground connection. If you mean you want to use the Masterlink cable for the transmission of Ethernet signals instead of Masterlink, then you are likely

As a general statement it should always be better to use the PUC to control Set Top Boxes and other units and is essential if you want the box hidden out of sight. Your problem sounds like an earthing issue to me. The shield of the Masterlink connector (the metal strip either side on the plug itself) is connected to the 3 screens within the Masterlink cable. If you look at either side of each Masterlink plug you should see lots of marks where it makes connection to the socket ground pins when plugged in, however
