Thanks, Soren and Blackrix. Maybe an idea for a new thread? 'What is it?', or 'Why did they?' Sounds like it could be quite a list.

No apologies needed here, Mika! Sometimes we just don't know! I really enjoyed the thread!! Brian

Thanks all, for the insightful responses. Now I know what the hole is for. Amusement.

On the rear of my Becord, there is a hole to the left of the din input. Does anyone know why it is there? It looks like it could for a button/switch. If it was more recent, I'd say it was the right size for a mini stereo in/output. There does not appear to be anything behind it for adjustment access, etc.. Did B&O think better of whatever was

Thanks, Mika. I'll still get rid of the plastic. though. I can't abide the thought of it melting into the works for whatever reason. You're quite right, the foil probably isn't going to bother anything as long as I can stop thinking about it. A cake pan! What'll they think of next? I would rather use a ten foot pole if I could. Right

Blackrix, sent you a PM. Mystery of the mechanism cover partially solved. Did a google search for the imprint on the foil and, guess what? It's for a food service cake pan!! Now the only question is, "Why"! The player seems to work just fine without it. and I'm supposing the rest of the foil is bogus too! unless some one can give me

Will do my best. Haven't posted pix yet. Thanks for your help. Brian.

While I love the warm sound, the aluminum looks cold next to all that warm wood. It's really too bad B&O didn't think that far ahead and design the CD to match. Maybe the supplier for rosewood dried up
-
You're very welcome! My sacrilege is just a thought, for now. It started with trying to think of a way to match my CD50 with the 8000 system. Perhaps replacing the aluminum front and sides with rosewood? That would at least make it a little more uniform. Then, while looking at veneer, which I'm not sure i could adequately match, I saw it! Thanks, Blackrix. It looks like the small 'smoked' window in the display glass has nothing behind it. So, there goes hope of adding a remote, if I could even find one! Unless someone know of a floating PCB out there, Now to the foil. There is foil on the top of the cabinet. It may be glued in spots, but mostly it's taped. Plus ( I didn't
