Ok, I'll try increasing the weight a little. As for checking that the scale on the tone arm is accurate, how do I go about doing that?

Actually no, it's just as bad at the beginning of a record as it is toward the end.

Not sure how/why this would be an intermittent problem, but once again I have distortion on the loudest parts of vocals. Only difference between the last time I posted about this and now is that it also happens with a rebuilt MMC2! Help?

Thanks. The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward upgrading to a better table. Would pairing my MMC2 with an 8002 be my best bang for my buck? And if I can't find an 8002, what would be a good second choice?

Actually, my 1800 (circa 1983) won't lower the tonearm the first time I press "Play" but if I press "Stop" and then hit "Play" again, it will lower. (Yes, it's moving over the record, but not dropping.) Kinda like second time's a charm, except I'd like it to work on the first try. Any thoughts? Also, I have

Not sure I understand the question. The tonearm on the 1800 won't move unless the platter is spinning. I'm pretty certain that the squeak is related to the platter not the tonearm.

I have a Beogram 1800 (the later model) with a rebuilt MMC2 from Axel. Musically, everthing is wonderful, especially with the MMC2 (I had been using a rebuilt MM5). But tonight I heard something peculiar: When I press play and the platter starts spinning from a dead stop, there's an audible "squeak" until it really gets moving. Then everything
