Check the adjustments of the << and >> keys. It's mentioned in the service manual and is just about the only thing that can cause this fault. Martin

No problem in wallmounting it. I have a BM1900 on the wall in my kitchen and it's basically the same machine. The only thing is the top lid, in most cases it will not close fully but stop apprx 1mm short. It will hold close though if pushed the last mm. Two screws in the wall and just hang the Beomaster. Martin

Sounds like a capacitor problem. In this case, I would concentrate on the smaller caps in the power supply area and the caps on the processor module. It's the control signals from the processor that goes through to the signal path. Martin

Well, my initial thought was about the 120 minute cassette tape. C-120 tapes are widely known to cause trouble in even the best decks simply because the tape is incredibly thin and I wouldn't expect any machine to accept them, some cassettedeck producers even advice against their use. I am not sure how the Beocord 5500 tells when to flip over but

When the tonearm halts, try removing the belt without disturbing the position of the opto interrupter and watch the motor. If it rotates, the tonearm carriage doesn't move freely enough.
