I am sure you could use the Beo5 but you lose the ability to control the box from another room if you have a link system. You also need to be able to program the Beo5 - This will not be as simple as you would like! Child's play for Keith but completely beyond an idiot like me!

I wonder which Beocord 9000 you have? There are two - the original has a fiendishly complex Dolby circuit which was markedly simplified in the second version. Agree - my Pace Sky+ box has the sensor between the last of the horizontal row of silver buttons and the LED showing the remote is operating - you can often make out a translucent area on the front which is not marked - this would be a good area to try first. Remember Sky+ uses a different set of codes to plain Sky so you will need to change the STB

The GT6 battery was not quite enough to get it going today - it fired last night but only briefly - so it had to be pushed out of the garage and the 16 year old Camry was used to jump start it. The V box will work as stated above. It is the V+ that is the problem. If it is the V box you want, it can be hidden away as it is connected to the Avant by a long wire with an IR emitter on it which sits over the IR receiver of the V box. You can put it is a cupboard if you want. If you get the V+, it will only work with the Beo5 if the Beo5 is programmed

Both the surround software and the STB-C software are actually chips which replace the existing ones. Any dealer can get these. Should be included in the purchase price.

To be honest I would not expect a huge improvement over the MX7000 as the 7000 has an excellent picture and good sound. The BV3 obviously has a widescreen and the 32" has good sound - though interestingly it uses cheaper drive units than an Avant - but there is quite a bit of digital jiggery pokery going on and you will get more digital artefacts

To control this you need one of the following: The most basic remote would be a Beolink 1000 . This is a one way remote and will allow you to select sources, tune the radio and control the sound. The next cheapest would probably be a MCP-5500 or 6500 . This will allow you to program the unit's timer as well as all the source and sound functions
