Welcome to Beoworld ! Beogram 1800 has 5-pin DIN standard if I remember correctly. However, if your Beogram has grey and black RCA's, I'm sure the grey one is left and black is right. Some moulded type plugs has "L" and "R" moulded in. Martin

The original drivers are 6 ohms, practically impossible to replace with anything else. Worth repairing the original drivers but tolerances are extremely tight in this type of driver so I wouldn't recommend you try your luck on these if you never did anything like this before. Also worth replacing the old and dried out capacitors in the crossovers

Hi Dan, Welcome to Beoworld ! Hard to diagnose without hands-on but I once had a Beogram like yours in for repair with symptoms like yours. It turned out that a production label (serial number etc.) found on the chassis, under the platter, had turned one corner upwards enough to touch the underside of the platter, producing the noise. Glueing the label

Check the TEST switch at the rear left side. It coudl be oxidated, operate it a couple of times. Martin

The MCP 5000 is completely different from the 5500 (and won't work with anything but a Beomaster 5000). Generally, if the MCP lights up when you rotate the wheel, the contact is fine and the opto is dead but the contacts are easily checked with an ohm-meter (MCP batteries removed) and also easily cleaned as Chris suggests. If the contacts are OK

I think you are right though the little leaf spring is not used in the MCP. I'm a bit curious, is the switch missing or what happened ? Normally, the opto part is the faulty one (I have new ones in stock). Martin

Gucci, Boss, Prada, Bang & Olufsen - whatever. We want B&O but aren't ready to pay for it, - is that the case ? I want a Ferrari but probably never will be able to buy one. Should I write to Ferrari and tell them to lower the price because I can get cars with other badges cheaper ? Sorry but we have had this discussion sooo many times before
-
Ferrari's are in my opinion far too expensive, it's just cars. Martin

I noticed you wrote that when you put the motor back together... "the contacts were positioned on each side of the motor spindle" Obviously, these need to go to their correct sides respectively of the commutator or the motor will rotate backwards and/or short the driver circuit, depending on the motor windings timing and start position for
