I have tried to make the display show "timer off" instead. I turned it on and off by holding the two pushbottoms in a number of seconds, it is mentioned in the user manual.

I generally have problems with this on all my beocords. The Beocord 5500, 8004 and my two 9000's do only show a level that is 3-4 dB lower than the recording level, it is quite annoying as the playback level also is reduced compared to original recording levels...

I have recieved an old Beocord 8004 from my Uncle. It has been out in his carport for 15 years in storage, there were seven layers of dust on it when I got it, and I thought that this might just be usable as a sorry looking donor unit with a rusty chassis. I took it home and began cleaning that thing. Underneath, the rosewood is still looking pristine

So you bought the 4000 that was on dba.dk at 900 DKK?

The arm assembly which is driven forward by the spindle should be tight as a screw with a bolt on, but the tonearm itself should be movable in it's nature. The sensor arm is fastened to the assembly and shouldn't bugde 4.4 in my 4002 service manual is about adjusting the CD4 decoder, looks like your manual is for the older type 5501/2/3?
