• Re: B&O cartridge review
the Grado blue on the 4002 is clever http://aminaaudio.com/phono.html
But looks horrible! I would have no problem with this, if it didn't destroy a perfectly good 400x tone arm...

I had now time to work on this a little more. I did the following: resoldered the front panel in its entirety replaced the four small caps in the power supply: C8, C9, C14 and C22 - all of them were bad according to my ESR meter replaced C35 (47u) and C57 (100u) in the CPU module - both were bad, the latter almost completely dead I also checked the
I am dying with projects that I never get finished and I don't want to have any more!
Me too The lights pump a little in all of mine as well once you get any real volume going. The dial lamps are fed from a separate transformer winding so they shouldn't tell much about the rest of the power supply

Then it looks like the amp basically works, but for some reason can't output much power. You could try replacing the output coupling caps, or just swapping left & right for testing. I dunno how probable it is that they would have a problem, though - I've never done anything to them... Trying to figure out things that have been modified in

Be careful with those transistors - those germanium types are very easily destroyed by excess heat during soldering, which is why you often see them with long wires (with insulating sleeves in proper repairs, though...). The ancient trick was to hold the wire with pliers between the component and solder joint while soldering, to conduct heat away from

Try to play the problematic speaker with a known good external source (be careful with the volume, of course) or even swap the speakers in the internal connector. That should tell where the problem is.

Soon? No. I believe we will have to wait for any manufacturer to build a practical OLED tv first...
There seemed to be some little repairs done before (judging from ugly solders).
The 40-odd year old original solderings can look quite ugly as well! Although the two black caps on top of the amp board don't seem original to me... The distortion might be a damaged output transistor as well. On my first

I believe the speaker frets would drop off if you removed the four nuts visible at each corner around the speaker.
You have checked the "no load current" of the amps? This should be the problem... maybe somebody deactivated the heat protection.
Yes and replaced the trimpots, as I said in the first post... I'm beginning to suspect the test points don't quite tell the truth about the actual current, so
