The transport screws are under the platter and are obvious when the top platter is removed. There are even instructions I seem to remember!

I think we should not be too down on the 5500 amplifier - quite capable of driving all the B&O range - I probably wouldn't use Beovox Pentas but apart from those, no problem.

70s boring!? Beogram 4000, Beomaster 6000 quad, Beomaster 4400, Beomaster 2400 etc! The most fertile period for B&O in my view. No computers so I agree multi room was out but stunning design and build quality.

Manual now on. I do have the 1400 one but am out playing tennis now so will probably start scanning it tonight. The 1600 is a nice manual!

The best way is obviously using the original packaging. However this is rare. I would remove the cartridge though this is risky as the pins in the MMC2 etc can loosen. However tha sylus is very delicate and I favour removing it. Do use the transit screws and tape the top platter to the bottom of the unit, underneath. I would not remove the sub platter

The 4500 was a direct line replacement for the 1900, a mid range device. Perfectly good amplifier but not top of the range and in no way cutting edge but made from what were thought to be excellent components at the time (Age has shown the capacitors to be not so hot but when did you last see a Sony etc that was 30 years old with no faults!) I take it that you don't do the Beopcord 5000 either! I think this must be the most frustratin device B&O made. Mine was working perfectly and then developed the wonderful habit of the spools turning in opposite directions and stripping the magnetic material off the tape. Now definitely a static display model!

Just dug out a picture of the cross over of one of mine - looks a bit different to yours!

I would pull out the crossover in the other pair and compare. It is actually not that complicated a crossover - I would replace the capacitors and the resistors and leave the coils alone. In the UK there are a number of suppliers - in the US, Radio Shack comes to mind. Just look at the ratings on the good cross over and copy them.

The 2400 will be fine but do not be tempted to play it at full volume for any length of time. The 2400 does actually seem rather good at powering difficult loads and has a peak output of up to 75W. Remember that most music you listen to will be at about 2W anyway!
