soundproof: .........hi-fi boondoggles. They sound the biz, I need one - how much are they??

I on the other hand believe it all to be a complete load of tosh! (although I will be honest and tell you that I've never tried it). My problem with it is that, regardless of the quality or purity of the ac power source into your amp (or active speaker) the very first thing that happens is that it is rectified (converted to dc) and heavily smoothed

9 LEE: If anyone has any ideas for polls - please PM me.. Lee Apparently they're quite handy for vaulting!

I think Peter is saying that it is the BM5000 preamp that is different to the others (5500, 6500 & 7000)

I would agree with john however, if there is no ulterior motive in replacing the BM5000 wiith the BM5500, you may find a replacement 5000 will be less expensive than the 5500 and I believe the 5000 has a better amp if you're using passive speakers (Peter may correct me here )

Firstly the tangential arm has to be driven by servo motor along a linear bearing to move across the record surface which means there needs to be a fairly complicated electronic circuit which "works out" where the arm is

moxxey: Puncher: I think the point is that, as you say, most folk.. Most = majority. How many people have Sky? Less than 4 million homes? I know more people who *don't* have Sky or cable than do. Mainly as most apartments are rented. Most folk still watch either analogue or digital/Freeview in the UK. Ratio must be something like 80:20. I'm

Peter: I also would not forget the Beogram 5000 radial deck which is beautifully made and sounds in my opinion just as good if not better than the 5005 etc. ......... and IMO looks much more elegant whn the lid is open
