Even with new drivers the CX's are still not worth a lot but a good pair of Pentas could be worth approaching £1000 so it's economically viable to spend the money.

I have never seen foam rings of the correct size advertised but they may be available somewhere. New drivers are around £25 each in the UK.

Your points are all very valid but don't apply to me or I suggest to the majority. I just wanna watch the television, you know, old fashioned entertainment such as news, sport, the odd comedy, documentaries or some of the wonderful dramas that British TV is famous for. I have no desire to watch modern DVD's be they Blu-ray or HD or whatever

These components are associated with the 5v supply. I have never seen a fault of this kind in this area so cannot be of much help. I suggest you contact Tim Jarman at www.beocentral.com who will at least understand the circuit and may be able to fix it for you.

From the service manual and from what I remember of the one I had apart a couple of years ago it is some sort of plastic sandwich construction. I would hope it's better than the BL1000 ones!
