They started off as Beocenter 2300 which was called the beosystem 2300 when Beolab 2500s were attached. When the Ouverture replaced the 2500, the 2300 was renamed Beosound. About 1994. Not to be confused with the Beomaster 2300!!

Agree. The MMC2 is the standard fitting. If the MMC4 works, there is no reason the MMC2 should not - the cartridge body is identical = only the cantilever and diamond differ. That is quite an incentive! The Beosound 5 is getting better and better and now is the time to buy before the price increase. Add a trip to Struer and it is difficult not to see this as the offer of the year. Shame the dates don't suit me or I would definitely consider this! Besides, going soon by car! (About the price of a BS5 !)

I believe polls have to be set up by moderators - in the last incarnation of the forum, we had a month where so many polls were set up that the site became unworkable as everytime someone voted the poll would rise to the top and there was an understandable tendency for all new members to vote on every poll. The VX5000 is easy as it has a jack which the sensor attaches to. The VX7000 is not as easy as it has no jack plug and therefore the sensor wire has to be soldered to the boards. Dealers used to be able to do this but very few have a service department these days that do much apart from modular repair. Worth asking though.

Agree with Graham - very impressed - am actually getting a friend to review them - he is a more recognised reviewer! I too had a MMC2 repaired but also a couple of MMC20 cartridges. Am arranging a comparison between a Soundsmith cartridge and one of Axel's.

I do have a 4000 and a 4004 as well!
