Had a quick peek on t'net and the 'Burr Brown PCM3052' gets very reasonable reviews. Certainly try before spending money on an external converter.

The EMU is a cracking deal at the price.

The converters in the Emu 0202 USB get really good reviews given its price of around £70. A lot of Headphone buffs use it (or its bigger brother 0404) as the converter when listening to music from computer.

It sounds like the strips are meant to be white but have UV aged/discoloured.

Peter : I usually scan as pdfs myself but can work with almost anything! If gifs are better, happy to get those! Gifs keep line and edge detail but round the colour up to the nearest 256 colour (or greyscale) from a pallette and so they are ideal for compressing line drawings, text or business graphics, but no good for photos as 256 colours isn't
